Lineae

LINEAE
Custom Lane | August 2017
with Half Formed Things
Lineae was a pop-up exhibition presented at Custom Lane, Edinburgh, in the summer of 2017. The exhibition brought together twenty-six photographic works from the Lineae series alongside an original sound piece by Edwin McLachlan, which played throughout the duration of the exhibition.
The series was made during periods of debilitation. All photographs were produced within a single location over two short sessions - one hour across two days - using only a mobile phone. The work foregrounds accessible technology as both method and necessity, demonstrating how constrained conditions can shape attentive, sustained visual practice.
The full series comprises over one hundred images. For the exhibition, twenty-six works were selected and printed on watercolour paper, framed in second-hand frames without glass. This decision encouraged close, tactile engagement, allowing the photographs to be encountered more like painted surfaces than protected objects.
All works from the exhibition were sold, and the event was fully booked.
“Lineae is a series of photographs observing the order, harmony and stillness of line in relation to light, shade and texture. These elements combine to evoke memory and a sense of engagement.”
The exhibition also featured a live performance by Half Formed Things, creating an immersive environment where image, sound, and stillness were experienced in one space.
With great thanks to Edwin McLachlan, Half Formed Things and Custom Lane
